We get it. Sending your child to camp for the first time is a big step. Let us take a shot at answering any questions you might have before you register a loved one.
Have a question that isn’t answered below?
Don’t hesitate to drop us a line.
Our physical address is 660 Camp Carmel Rd., Dunbar, PA 15431. We strongly encourage folks to use the GOOGLE MAPS app as it seems to work best.
PRO TIP: Be sure to start navigation when leaving your house. This will ensure proper navigation even when possibly losing cell service in the areas mountains and valleys. :-)
To ensure the safety of our campers we require background checks and clearances to be on file for our staffers. Because of this, we do not allow visitors during our summer months. This helps us safeguard our campers and avoid any unwanted disctractions to our programming and events. Thanks for your understanding!
Our camp weeks run SUNDAY afternoon to SATURDAY morning.
For the safety of everyone coming and going from our property, we’ve started to limit traffic to one direction at a time. This can lead to wait times of around 15-20 minutes at a time. We strongly encourage parents to arrive to our top gate at 3PM on Sunday afternoon. The top gate will open at 3:30 and the first wave of traffic will be admitted. Park your vehicle in front of the mess hall (1st building in camp on the right) and WALK to the registration area. At this point, you and your camper will be CHECKED IN. Bring any paperwork, registration fee payment, store tab $ and any medication currently prescribed to your camper (in ziplock bag with name written on it ). After check in is complete, your camper will meet with the camp nurse for a wellness check (fever, headline, etc.) and discuss any important medical information (prescriptions, allergies, restrictions, etc.). Please use this time to share any vital information about your camper with the camp nurse in this confidential area. Once seen by the nurse, you along with your camper can proceed to the cabins. PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE through the campground. Rather, we ask that you carry all luggage to the campers cabin. This helps create a safe environment for everyone.
In short, no.
We want your camper to be “unlpugged” from the world and fully engaged in the camping experience. Electronics (phones, tablets, computers, etc.) are all distractions that can lead to problems in the cabins. Please leave them at home as they are not allowed in camp. *Camp does not take responsibility for any lost or stolen items that have been “smuggled” in to camp. ;-)
Please see the attached packing list!
Our location in the Laurel Highlands of SW PA permits us the opportunity to explore so much of God’s creation! Campers can have the opportunity to canoe and tube on the Youghiogheny River, cool off by creeking, swimming and enjoying a natural water slide in Morgan Run, Hike and Bike on the Great Allegheny Passage (Rail to Trail), visit Ohiopyle State Park for a day trip, fun in the water, packed lunch and ice cream treat, bike riding, fun and games, activities in camp, bible-based daily lessons and nightly campfires with songs and lessons. Campers will get the opportunity to “be kids” and step away from the “noise and distractions” of every day life. Creating new friends that last a lifetime and hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ are the best aspects of a week at Camp Carmel.
Though our roots are firmly planted in the Baptist denomination we accept campers from all walks, backgrounds and faiths at Camp Carmel. If you’d like to learn more about what we believe, check out our ”About Us” page.
If you have any other questions or simply want to talk to a pastor, we’re on the other end of this line and are eager to chat with you. Fill out a “connect with us” and we’ll connect you with a local pastor!
